Pinterest Finds
Are you on Pinterest? Do you use it to find inspiration for your home, or recipes or how to put together an outfit? For me, it's all of the above. But more than anything, I'm obsessed with saving ideas for home design (probably not a total surprise). If you haven't checked out my Pinterest boards yet, you can check them out here.
Today I wanted to share a board with you that I think is especially fun called Collections. But first, let's take a step back in time. In my early years of living on my own, I was utterly broke but wanted to decorate my apartment, so I had to get extra creative with how to fill my walls. I wanted original art (but I can't paint to save my life), so I found objects (ideally free) and created unique collections.
One of my all-time favorites collections were pieces of driftwood I found on the North Shore. While on vacation in Grand Marais, I combed the beach and filled a bag with small pieces of driftwood. I was attracted to the gray weathered color and texture and unique shape of each piece. I could have filled a large bowl and put them on my coffee table, but instead, I glued them to a piece of tagboard in a grid pattern and framed it in a classic black frame with white matte. Viola, art!
Collections can be just that simple. They can be pieces you already have lying around or found objects. Regardless, by grouping them, you can make them appear as one more significant piece of art, showcasing them as a collection.
Clocks
By mixing different shapes, sizes, and colors (in odd numbers), you can make any collection of clocks work. When determining a height, pick a center point at eye level and work around that center object or location. This grouping works well over a bedroom desk and would fun in a home office or kitchen too!
Baskets
Creating a collection of eclectic baskets is such a fun and easy way to add texture to a room and fill a sizable wall. Woven baskets and trays are something you can collect over time from your local flea market, or you could find a great selection at your local home decor store if you want a quick turnaround. I like how this installation has a variety of sizes and styles, and no two are alike.
Spoons
These spoons tell a story, don't they? When I see them, I want to know where they came from, who used them, how old they are. Such a great conversation piece! Perfect for a kitchen, informal dining area, or pantry.
Hats
Talk about practical! I love me some hats, and why stash them away in a closet when you could have them on display? Sweaty old baseball caps might not have the same appeal. Instead, straw, fedora, and wide brimmed hats are a better fit for this type of display.
Cutting Boards
I've never seen such cool cutting boards. I feel like more patina is better in this situation, new cutting boards wouldn't have the same appeal. You can mix so many unique shapes and sizes to make a fascinating installation. Again, all things in odd numbers usually work better. As for hanging, it looks like they picked a mid-height and hung everything above and below that point.
