Friday Five // Soaking Up the Last of Summer
If you’re feeling down about the end of summer, you’re not alone! Especially given the fact that we’ve all pretty much been at home for months on end, it definitely feels like we missed out a bit on our normal summer magic. But that doesn’t mean it’s out of reach! It’s not fall yet, so you definitely still have time to soak up that sunshine and those feel-good vibes. Read on for my favorite last-minute summer adventures - you’ll want to get them on your schedule, stat!
Farmers Market 2. Grilling 3. Hiking 4. Fair Food Truck 5. Picnic
NO. 1 FARMERS MARKET
Wondering how to support your local small businesses? Head to your local farmers market! Not only will you get the best of the best in fresh produce and flowers, but there are also plenty of artisans selling their unique boutique offerings. Since these will only be around for a little longer (most close down by Sept/Oct), you'll definitely want to get there while you can!
NO. 2 GRILLING
Nothing beats a summer evening with the grill roaring and an ice cold cocktail in hand. And while it feels like fall is right around the corner, it's not time to put away that grill yet! Go for one last hurrah and do it up big with all your fave summer classics. Personally, I'm all about that sweet corn, so you know what I'll be requesting on the menu!
NO. 3 HIKING
While we can't exactly travel a ton right now, you can still get out and find adventure. The best part? Sometimes it's right in your own backyard. Find a new part or trail you've never seen before and just go for it - pack a lunch, throw on a pair of comfortable shoes, and get ready to soak up those amazing views. The experience is worth every step.
NO. 4 FAIR FOOD TRUCK
The state fair is one of my favorite parts of summer, so I'm beyond bummed it's not happening this year (but of course, understandable!). If you're like me and want nothing more than to get your hands on some of those not-so-good-for-you goodies reserved for once a year, there is hope! Many of the stands are operating out of food trucks this year, so you can definitely still make your tastebuds happy!
NO. 5 PICNIC
I love being outdoors this time of year, and one of the easiest (and budget-friendly) ways to do it is to go on a good old fashioned picnic with the fam. Choose a park you love or a new lakefront location, find a socially-distanced spot to plop, then lay out all your food. It doesn't have to be fancy either - even a deli rotisserie chicken gets a major upgrade when you're outside and enjoying the day.
What have been your favorite summer adventures this year? How have you used this new “normal” to get creative with your fam? If you have any other ideas for great outdoor activities to do to get the most out of the season, I’d love to hear about them - drop a comment below!
