5 Ways To Renew Your Bedroom This Year

Day 12 of the 30-day blogging challenge

Pinterest finds

Last weekend I shared one of my favorite Pinterest Boards called Collections (you can check it out here if you're curious). This week on my Pinterest Finds post, I wanted to share some of my favorite bedrooms from Pinterest and give you five ways to renew your bedroom! If you haven't checked out my Pinterest boards yet, you can check them out here.

Our bedrooms can be a neglected space in the home. We invest our time and money into other areas that we use to entertain guests, which is cool, but it's essential to create a retreat for yourself as well. Agree? I think so too. That's why I'm sharing five ways to renew your bedroom this week. Whether you're on a budget or want to go all out and create the bedroom getaway of your dreams, here are some of my best tips!

Take a look and share your favorite bedroom upgrade in the comments below. Which one are you going to try this year?!

Bedside Sconces

I'm loving sconces next to the bed (I can't wait to add some to my bedroom, hopefully soon). Lamps are lovely, but sconces are a good option if you're short on space, and you want to maximize nightstand surface.

They also offer a three-dimensional element that makes the room feel more dynamic than a lamp. Try a swing arm sconce if you want something with flexibility.

And like all lighting, put them on a dimmer! A brighter light is excellent for reading, but you might want a softer light first thing in the morning.

Seating Area

If space allows, use the opportunity to add seating to your bedroom, its inviting and instantly makes your room more relaxed.

For example, add a bench at the foot of the bed, its a great place to toss a robe or extra blanks and pillows.

A chair & ottoman is the perfect way to warm up an empty corner of your room and lends itself for reading a book, working on your laptop, or if we're honest, collecting piles of clothes.

If you have a large room and need to fill lots of space, a pair of chairs is an excellent option. I can picture my husband and me in his and her's chairs (with coffee and chatting about the day). One can dream.

Tall Drapery

Want to make your room look taller, add softness, privacy, and light control? Drapery panels are my go-to window treatment for bedrooms.

Take it a step further and mount them at the ceiling or crown molding, no matter how tall your ceilings. Your eye will follow the panels to the top of the room, making the room feel taller.

With so many types of fabrics, you can choose a sheer fabric for minimal coverage to blackout for complete privacy. Unless you want the drapery to be the focal point, try a solid colored neutral material that blends into the room, use a heavily textured fabric for more interest.

Wallpaper Accent Wall

What I love about this trick is you can update your bedroom in a pretty impactful way without completely overhauling the room. Simply add wallpaper to one wall in your bedroom (usually the headboard wall) and Viola!

Keep your bedding neutral and opt for a punch of color and pattern in the wallpaper. Make sure to find an appropriately scaled wallpaper pattern for the room. Tiny prints will get busy on a big wall, and large designs in a small space won't translate well.

Architectural Details

Adding architectural elements like paneling, shiplap or wainscoting will take your bedroom to the next level. These details add texture, depth, and will tie your bedroom into the rest of the house with a cohesive architectural detail.

If you opt to add more hard surfaces on your walls or ceilings, the room can get noisy. Make sure to add softness like rugs, upholstered furniture, drapery panels, and pillows.

After all, your bedroom should be a quiet and serene space to relax and recharge.
