Creating Balance at Home
Like everyone else around the world, this past month has been nothing short of surreal. We had every intention of getting a March newsletter out to you, but between all of this change happening and our scheduled spring events being canceled, we just couldn’t find the right words or links to share. After a lot of reflection, though, we’re ready to jump back in and can’t wait to reconnect. We are still open for business and want more than anything to be a continued source for all of your inspiration and design education needs. Plus, it never hurts to have a little pleasant distraction from the chaos!
So, if you’re struggling like we are with balancing homeschool, work, deadlines, anxiety, and a shortage of household essentials, just know that we’ve got your back. This month, we’re sharing a few of our favorite articles and tips on surviving this new at-home reality. Because at the end of the day, you’ve got to do whatever works for you. Hang in there, friends - we’ll get through this!
Xo,
Laura
HOMESCHOOLING
I’m not going to lie, making the shift to homeschooling has been a really hard pill to swallow. So many of us rely on the incredible work of teachers and caretakers to help educate and entertain our kids each day, and with that being unexpectedly gone, a lot of us are wondering how the heck to pull it all off without going insane. The good news is that there are a ton of resources out there, and this article is currently topping my list. It’s got some great tips for setting up kid-friendly work areas, allowing for creative freedom within their own bedroom realms, and establishing a routine that works for the whole family. It’s a must read, for sure.
GRIEVING
Woah, this article hit me hard. I’ve been trying to pinpoint my feelings over the past few weeks and after reading this, it’s totally spot on. The author talks about how we’re all grieving through this crisis, and though It’s strange to think that that’s the case (especially since that word is usually associated with the loss of a loved one), we are grieving the shift in our norms and the loss of so many experiences. Definitely give this one a read - it’s got great tips to help you get back into a positive mindset while still giving space for those deep feelings.
INSPIRING WORKSPACES
When we’re at our homes 24/7 trying to get everything done, innovation and creativity can take a back seat. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to create a workspace that will get that energy and excitement going again - especially if you’re struggling each day to focus on the tasks at hand. PANTRY-FRIENDLY RECIPES
Got a pantry full of the basics, but no idea what to make? In non-pandemic times, that would mean a new recipe and a quick trip to the store for all the spices and ingredients to make it come to life. But today, it can be really hard to find everything you need, leaving you to scramble to make delicious meals for the fam. This article has some amazing recipes to work with, and all of them use common items most people already have on hand at home. Give it a try - you just may find a new go-to fave!
