Friday Five // 2020 Trend Predictions
At the beginning of each year, I like to make a few trend predictions for the world of design. While you can never go wrong with the classics - neutral color palettes, simple patterns, and more - occasionally a bold and unexpected trend comes into popularity and I can't help but fall in love. So this week, I'm taking you on a tour of my predictions for 2020 and talking all about how to incorporate them into your home while maintaining a timeless style. Read on for all the details!
NO. 1 WILD MARBLE PATTERN
Soft and subtle stone patterns have always been my go-to, but lately the "wild" marble pattern has been making a major splash in design. Large veining and streaks of golds/browns going through a grey or white slab is all the rage right now, and I'm loving it, especially on vertical backsplashes & shower walls to give it maximum impact.
NO. 2 BRASS FIXTURES
Brass isn't exactly new, but there's a reason it's still so popular. It gives a space an infusion of warmth and color, but still feels neutral and simple. From the easy upgrades (cabinet hardware, lighting) to the committed route (plumbing fixtures), as long as you stick with antique or burnished brass versus shiny yellow, you'll be right on trend.
NO. 3 STAIR RUNNERS
Stairs can be tricky - hardwood steps are often too slippery and wall-to-wall carpet feels outdated and boring. So, what's the perfect in-between? Stair runners! I love adding these to my projects because they're the best way to add a fun statement without going overboard. And in my opinion, an infusion of personality is always a good idea.
NO. 4 BOLD TILE COLORS
Bold tile colors are all over my Pinterest feed right now, and while I've always been drawn more to neutrals, I'm surprised by how much I'm into this trend. The trick, of course, is to maintain balance within the space. Choose one area - like your shower - to install a rich color, then keep the rest of the room quiet to avoid overstimulation.
NO. 5 ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST
More and more clients are looking for ways to add simple details here and there to make their homes feel fresh and updated. A wider trim around your windows, taller baseboards, or interior door toppers are all fairly minor additions, but the architectural interest they provide can completely change the look and feel of a room.
Have you seen these trends crop up on your Pinterest board? Do you find yourself pinning those fresh and whimsical designs again and again? We all love a good refresh, and whether you're on board with a bold tile for 2020, or prefer a more subtle stair runner approach, I've got a feeling this year is going to be simply gorgeous for interiors. Cheers!
