Friday Five // Simple Items with Big Impact

These days, I’m all for changing up my home’s interior. After all, this endless quarantine paired with a fresh new season is practically begging for a style infusion of something new. If you’re feeling lost, though, and wondering how to decorate strategically and where your updates will make the most impact, read on. This week, I’m dishing on the top five ways you can make simple - but impactful - changes to your decor. With a few key tweaks, you’re bound to feel rejuvenated and right at home once again in your space.

  1. Window Treatments 2. Greenery or Flowers 3. Right Size Rug 4. Pillows 5. Full Bookcase

NO. 1 WINDOW TREATMENTS

Investing in window treatments for your home is one of the best decisions you can make. They're practical, for one (when darkness hits, it's time to welcome a little privacy from neighbor eyes), and beyond that, they're added opportunities to express your style. Roman shades, curtains, blinds - so many gorgeous options await!

NO. 2 GREENERY OR FLOWERS

Need a quick and simple pick me up? Skip a dramatic overhaul of your decor and instead pick up a bouquet or two of greenery or flowers. Pop them in a stylish vase and your room immediately comes to life. On a budget? Grab a few stems from your yard, or even a few branches from a nature walk - they add instant texture that can't be beat!

NO. 3 RIGHT SIZE RUG

One of the biggest faux pas moves when it comes to decor is buying a rug that doesn't fit your space. Going too small will make things feel cramped and a bit off while going too big will make your furniture feel miniature and out of sync with everything. The bottom line is that before making a rug purchase, you always want to measure - having the right size is worth it all.

NO. 4 PILLOWS

If you've been reading our blog for awhile, you know I'm a pillow fan. But honestly, there's a reason I mention it so often - it really does have an amazing impact on a space. What else can completely change an aesthetic with just a few fluffs here and there?! Right now, I'm loving muted hues for fall, and by layering a few bold patterns with more classic prints, it's guaranteed to be a winner overall.

NO. 5 FULL BOOKCASE

Nothing makes a room feel more welcoming and warm than a full bookcase with a mix of conversation decor pieces, framed family photographs, tchotchkes, and books. The sparse and minimal look is sometimes nice for photographs, but when it comes to everyday living, a bookcase filled with whatever makes you happy is the key to creating a statement that anchors the whole room in place.

Sometimes, a couple of minor additions or swaps are enough to make your home feel brand new. Whatever you’re loving this time of year - be it deep and moody colors or rich and cozy textures - adding a bit here and there in each room is guaranteed to make a statement. It all comes down to strategic additions. Keep it simple, and you can never go wrong.
