How To Use This Classic Pattern In Your Home

DAY 26 OF THE 30-DAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE

PINTEREST FINDS

One of my all-time favorite patterns is stripes, not to mention one of the most classic designs of all time. Stripes have always been neutral in my eyes, but I know a designer who won't use stripes. What a shame! It's so versatile and takes on a different look every time, depending on how you use it. Modern, coastal, vintage, masculine, or feminine, it works with everything.

This week I've pulled together some of my favorite stripe pattern spaces using rugs, upholstery, window treatments, and more. You can use a stripe pattern to make a bold statement on your sofa or add subtle details with a throw draped over a chair.

Check out my top picks on Pinterest. I'd love to know your thoughts. What do you think about stripes? Are you obsessed like me or a little goes a long way in your home? Tell me all about it in the comments below!

Stripes on Stairs

Whether you paint stripes right on your steps or use a carpet runner, I love how a vertical stripe leads your eye up the staircase and creates interest. Stairways don't give you a lot of opportunities for styling and accessories, but by adding a pattern on the steps, you give the space instant character.

Stripes on an Ottoman

Using a stripe pattern on an ottoman is a great way to add visual impact without committing to a large piece in the room. If you're nervous about trying a whole sofa, a striped ottoman might be your friend. If you get tired of it, its easier to recover or casually drape a throw over it or add a large tray to cover the pattern. Easy peasy.

If stripes are your jam (like me), I say go all in and do the living room sofa (and while you're at it, layer a striped rug underneath). A thin tailored ticking stripe is a classic look that lends itself well to just about any style. If drama is more your thing, go for a wide stripe or fun color combination. I gravitate towards a soft neutral color palette, but I'm not afraid of a pattern, so bring on the stripes!

Shades and drapery are one of the last pieces to go into a room, but they can completely transform a space. Adding a contrasting tape trim in a stripe pattern to a drapery panel can elevate the look. Likewise, a roman shade in a striped pattern can add a fun pop of to a room of neutral furnishings.

Stripes on Rugs

Another known fact, I'm equally obsessed with all things black and white (also a classic, do you see a theme here), which is why all my favorite stripe rugs picks are, you guessed it, black and white. So many possibilities, by varying the thickness of the stripe or off-setting the stripes, it completely changes the look. The fiber content makes s big difference too, more textured or slubby backgrounds feel casual and almost boho. A more refined cotton weave looks more tailored.
