4 Easy Ideas for Changing Over your Decor from Holiday to Winter
Day 14 of the 30-day blogging challenge
Making the Shift from Holiday to Winter Style
Usually by this time in January, I’m holiday-ed out. Every last ornament and Christmas bauble has been stashed away and I’m more than ready to start fresh with my home decor. But too often, we tend to think of “winter” and “holiday” as one and the same, and it can be tempting to jump right into a spring mindset with our home style. So today, I’m here to show you 4 easy ideas for changing over your decor from holiday to winter. Because, let’s be honest - winter is going to last quite a bit longer, so we may as well embrace all that hygge goodness while we’ve got it. Read on for my quick tips - you’ll have an upgraded space that’s ready for the season before you know it.

COCKTAIL TABLE
Your cocktail table (or, as it’s often referred to - your coffee table) is a must have to anchor your space. And since it’s such an important visual element of a room, giving your cocktail table an upgrade is a simple, yet impactful change that can totally alter the overall vibe. I’m absolutely in love with tables like this wood grain number right now - it’s an amazing choice for winter since it adds a pop of texture to the space, but it doesn’t feel too colorful or vibrant like a spring/summer piece might be. Plus, if we’re pulling inspiration from the outdoors (and the bare trees that dot the scenery), exposed wood feels just right.
FIREPLACE MANTEL
I don’t know about you, but while I’m happy to stash away the pine and evergreen garland for a while, there’s still something so inviting and cozy about a layer of garland draped above a fireplace during these cold months. If you love it as much as I do, the best way to make it feel more “winter” rather than “holiday” is to use greenery and foliage that pulls in a few other shapes and shades for a more seasonal look. Avoid the firs or eucalyptus strands popular during Christmas and go for large, leafy greens instead. Still unsure about which ones to choose? Look at some of the greenery used in bouquets for inspiration - a completely unique plant you’ve never thought to use before may be just the right amount of unexpected flair for your decor refresh.
DINING TABLE
Dining tables can sometimes feel hard to style for everyday life (especially when we so often pair them with eclectic and festive tablescapes in our minds). To keep it feeling stylish all winter long, though, all you need are some fresh blooms and a bowl or platter of beautiful fruit. Keep the colors muted and deep to match the temps this time of year, and make sure the items you choose feel cohesive with the rest of the room’s color scheme. A subtle bit of added height and shape can give a dining table an instant infusion of new life.
SIDE TABLE
If your side table is feeling blah and out of date, give it a quick refresh with a vase of dried branches and a cute neutral accessory. The dried branches add height and texture but still give off those winter vibes, and a simple string of wooden beads or a unique tchotchke give your vignette an extra layer that helps to connect it to the rest of the space.
